March to your own beat..

This is so me I just had to play along with the Lovely Laney .. I so March to my own beat and I will admit I am not the best drummer when I get carried away.. put me on a set beat and I can march for hours but bring in the full kit and oh I can be a runaway train!!..

So Laney has given us prompts for week 1 and here are my answers to a few of them.

Me before I was a Mum... oh where to start.. my life was mildly glamorous as I was a model (I still dabble but castings and kids are not a fab combo, nor can I miss swimming classes just to rock up and never get the job!).

I also lived a very selfish life where I trained allowed myself the luxury to take time to train for Ironman Triathlons (3.8k Swim, 180k Bike, 42.2k Run.. yes you read that right... mental and I did that 3 times) that meant I exercised about 18-20 hours a week (often more). Oh how life has changed. Not much glamour these days and oh to even manage 5 training sessions let alone the 9 I used to do..

But you know what life moves on... I am grateful I had those opportunities and I will get to be selfish with my time again later on in life.. right now I am busy shaping my kids up to be as glamorously selfish (LOL) as I was and I am busy trying to establish a way my family can have the security and opportunity to be a selfish, time consuming Ironman Family later on in life.. I have about 14 yrs until Kitty can race along side me.. so Bring it On!

  1. If I could wolf whistle I would! Did triathlon help your modelling career at all?

3 Ironmans baby. I can match that in Half Ironmans but never could get my head around the bike training for the full distance. 6 hour bike rides? *Vomit*

And next time I am in Sydney, we are definitely hooking up for a run. Actually I am in Sydney at the end of March for a wedding and staying in Manly ... near you at all?!

    1. OMG.. I am in North Balgowlah.. 15 min run from Manly!.. We are on baby.. oh I am excited.
Actually my fitness got me quite a few jobs.. have one job where I was in a ski squat for 3 hours so they had to get a decent pair of legs, lol... another TV AD for a vitamin drink where I was a marathon runner and whilst I ran back and forwards all day I covered a fair bit of ground AND did another TV AD where I was a double for an olympic swimmer in a hair commercial and did all her open water swimming bits so funnily enough yes it did!. Probably lost me as many as I was too "muscly" but hey ho!!
Do you get these replies or do you have to pop back on the blog to get them? not sure about that part so will email you too x

  2. gee what a life before kids.. i could see how you could miss that life a little. But that is the funny thing about life, there are chapters and new chapters to come and the story just continues. Maybe one day the chapter can be revisited again x

  5. I agree, life before kids was very selfish and I cannot wait to take my girls out surfing when they get older or just a run around the block...win win for everyone!!!

  6. Wow - it is so much fun 'meeting' people through blogging and learning about their life before kids. You certainly lived it up with an exciting career and the Ironmans. I am seriously impressed, but also realise we were only able to do some of those things before motherhood because could be selfish with our time. It's a different ball game when the family wants their slice too! Thanks for playing along. You can link up your post on Wednesday if you like :)

  8. I feel so much better having read that so many other former exercise nuts just can't find the time or don't prioritise it now they are a mum. I've always felt like a member of the looser-mum club by not getting that part of my life back. Now that I know even you semi-professional exercises don't always get there I won't beat myself up over it so much. What a great challenge this march to your own beat is. I'm so enjoying reading everyone's posts.
