For me Bangara have that bohemian feel without loosing the quality of fine jewellery.. I had a chat to find out more..
Why did you choose your business name?
We have travelled this beautiful planet, we have been inspired by the wonders of the natural world and have observed the many cultures that inhabit it. As we journeyed through the far-east we were fortunate enough to encounter a people known as the Banjara Tribe who create special jewellery made from a mixture of materials, old and new, all of which had been found & collected. They made their jewellery, using a combination of colourful threads, textiles, shells and old coins amongst other materials available to them. We love and embrace the idea of making a non-previous material precious by combining these materials with sterling silver. As so much of our initial inspiration was taken from the Banjara Tribe, that is where our business name ‘Banjara’ was born.
Have you had any major highlights, personal or business in the last few years?
The launch of our business has been the main highlight over the past 2 years. We are a relatively new jewellery label and we released our first collection in January 2011... After many months of planning of course. We have had such a great response to our designs since launching our label and already have many loyal ‘Banjara’ followers.
What have you most enjoyed in your career so far?
There are so many, so just to name a few.... Being our own boss, freedom of designing what we want, travelling around Australia & overseas!
What inspires or motivates you?
There is a clear tribal influence in our work, we also have a fascination with reviving the old & making it new again, this is seen with the use of old coins & tribal beads in our latest range ‘The Kuchi Collection’
..and lastly tell me one things about yourself that you love but has nothing to do with business.
We love the freedom and excitement of travelling, getting a chance to see the different corners of the world, their cultures and the unique ways they live their lives!
