Q&A with our Giveaway

When did you start your business and how did it come about?
Mr. Essentials skincare line was a natural progression derived from my passion for looking after my own skin from a fairly young age, as well as an understanding of the benefits of looking after and maintaining a basic skin regime.

“When I was living abroad, I was constantly frustrated by the lack of quality skin care products made available to men, specifically. I was especially frustrated with women’s brands digressing into men’s lines… passing them off as male specific brands and products,” he says. “I’m essentially my own market and when I came back home to Australia I realised that there was a lack of genuine, credible and male specific brands and products available to men.”

Why did you choose your business name?
Mr. Essentials is just that, "a quality men’s product that connects with men” by developing the Mr. Essentials brand from a consumer’s view. “I purposely created a brand and range of products that I myself would want to use.”

What have you most enjoyed in your career so far?
The positive way that people react to both the Mr. brand and product ranges..“It always gives me a buzz to receive messages or to have people tell me how much they love the brand and products,”

Have you had any major highlights, personal or business in the last few years?
Behind any phenomenal success story is exceptional mentoring. The scientist George engaged is 79 years old and “definitely a fantastic mentor for me.”
“He is very well respected as being one of the founding fathers of utilising Australian indigenous plant in skin care formulation. He is true to his work and is totally committed in constantly researching new methods and perfecting existing patents and formulations,” says George. “He has taught me a great deal about understanding the science form the fluff in this industry and what actually makes a great skin care product.”

What inspires or motivates you?
I’m inspired by creating something that I can say I’m proud of and enjoy seeing people derive the same pleasure from using our products. This motivates me to continue the good work and always raise the bar in terms of our brand, quality and service.
In terms of other creators and founders, I would say Tom Ford definitely inspires me. He is a true genius… everything that man touches turns to gold! I have visited his flagship boutiques and his creations, style and service is second to none. To me, his success clearly demonstrates that despite a lot of ‘smoke and mirrors’, the public and loyal consumers will always support and gravitate to truly inspired creators of great quality products

..and lastly tell me one things about yourself that you love but has nothing to do with business..
I guess I’m always optimistic, glass half full kind of guy. I always believe that you can turn a negative position into a positive one.

  1. Yay for we scientists!! Sounds amazing, my husband was raised with model sisters so his skin has always been cared for, don't be fooled by the fact he's a soldier, he assures me the SAS & Special Forces showers smell like The Body Shop or Lush as they all have puffs & scented liquid soaps, special face creams, so they look extra clean & smooth before applying camouflage cream, tee hee, it's an untapped market, love Posie

  2. That was such an interesting read!

I'm still not sure how I feel about a male range of skincare products, but... well. I kinda hoped that feminism would remove the whole expensive appearance thing for women, not pile it on for the men. Probably a post for another day!! x
